Fort Lauderdale
The scenic beach front city of Fort Lauderdale is located in the center of Florida, United States of America. The city was named after Major William Lauderdale, who built a fort at the mouth of New River during the Seminole Indian wars in the late 1880’s.
Aside from being known as the famed Spring Break capital of the country with its tropical climate, it is also known as the locale for 1960’s beach movies with Hollywood stars like Connie Francis in the films “Where the Boys Are.”
The strip of beach along Fort Lauderdale Beach is the famous vacation destination, located between Las Olas Boulevard north to Sunrise. In fact, the heart of the beach strip called A1A is known as “ground zero” of the beach at Fort Lauderdale, the site for the bar called the “Elbo Room” featured in the classic spring beach movie “Where the Boys Are.”
Today, alongside the throng of Spring Break visitors coming to the city, Fort Lauderdale is in the midst of a luxury hotel building boom, and actively courts the yachting crowd. Now known as the “Yachting Capital” of the south, it is no surprise that the famous Bahia Mar yacht Basin is where all the boats line up for show.
Guests visiting downtown Fort Lauderdale, at Las Olas Boulevard will enjoy a bustling array of shops, galleries, and cafes, with various options for entertainment such as the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Museum of Art, and the Museum of Discovery and Science.
For those more inclined to see the art and history of the city, there is the Old Fort Lauderdale Village & Museum, Stranahan House as well as the Wilton Manors.
