Sarasota

Located on the central west coast of the state of Florida in the United States of America, the city of Sarasota is an artists’ haven in the tropical paradise close to the equator.

Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands—some natural and some artificial—locally called keys, facing the Gulf of Mexico are part of its locale. It is this topography that contributes to the breathtaking beaches along its coasts—especially those on Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Longboat Key.

In particular, Siesta Key Beach, is the foremost attraction for sun-worshippers coming to Sarasota. It white crystal quartz sand plays against the prisitne blue green waters of the Mexican Gulf. Locals and visitors alike can play a game of volleyball on its courts, enjoy lunch on the grill with family and friends under the watchful eyes of the lifeguards on duty on the beach.

Sun-down brings the beach to another world—drum circles beat out spine-tingling beats right on the beach, mingling with the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore.
The Sarasota Jungle Gardens are a must-visit, with a wide array of wonderful gardens with botanical marvels, animal shows and rare plants of extraordinary size.

Historic Spanish Point, formerly the winter home of Mrs. Palmer in Osprey, is a prime location for history buffs as they go back in time to see the growth of the southwestern Florida, with exhibits about its maritime heritage, the pioneer homesteaders, the archaeology and environment of the area.

For those seeking a respite from the croweded downtain locale, there is the nearby St. Armands Circle, with a unique circular pattern in its landscape for a refreshing and distinctive afternoon visit to its shops, galleries and cafes.

Sarasota’s most famous resident was the John Ringling, whose Ringling Estate is the home of the Ringling Museum of Art with its impressive display of 17th and 18th Century European Baroque art such as those by Peter Paul Rubens, the Ca d'Zan (House of John) or the venetian style Ringling Mansion, the Circus Museum with its circus art and historical documentation of the American circus field, and the Asolo Theater.
